Mother’s Day

Some things to remember about their addiction on Mother’s day …

If you have an addicted child that is active in their addiction and the neglected to:

1. call you
2. visit you
3. get you a gift
4. or acknowledge mother’s day in any way shape or form

It is not because they don’t love you. Their disease is powerful and controls their every move regardless of the calendar event or holiday. They are the puppet on the chains of addiction when active!

Never give up hope for your child and remember tomorrow could be the start of a new journey in their life. Not being acknowledged for mothers’s day is truly painful. Hopefully their amends for this hurt will be part of their Step 9. A step that helps heal both mother and child.

I wish you all a Happy and Healthy Mother’s Day this year!

  1. Yes addiction contols every holiday as well as every holiday is just another day for those still suffering with addiction.

  2. even though it's not intentional it still hurts :(

Excellent point, Parent Ofaddict. As a former hardcore addict, I can attest to the fact that people in active addiction have their heads far too up themselves to think about Mother's Day or any other holiday or family event. It's not because they don't love their moms… it's because they are too mentally distant and emotionally numb to think about anything but ourselves.

I have lived those days, of feeling hurt. But I too had learned that it wasn't intentional it was the addiction. I am greatful to have my children today in my life. My child appreciates me and remembers what Mother's Day is about.

My son is still active in his addiction, with my my granddaugher in tow. I pray every day. Please pray for my sanity, and for my beautiful grandbaby. I know the slogans, I’ve been to meetings………still rough sometimes. It’s still rough picturing a needle going into your “baby’s” arm. Not to be a downer, just venting. Rough day, I guess.

Last year on Mother’s Day, my son was in detox. This year, my son is one year clean. I truly believe that like life, sobriety is fragile, and I am grateful for every day. I am posting this to remind all readers to never give up hope. Recovery happens every day.

    Happy Mother’s Day!
