The Orihuela City Council, through its Health Department, has unveiled a creative new initiative aimed at raising awareness among young people about the risks of addictions: an interactive escape room titled “Choose a Life of Excitement, Not Addiction.”

Designed to combine fun with education, the activity encourages teenagers to explore the consequences of their choices in a controlled, playful environment.

Targeting Teens with an Engaging Experience

The escape room will be held at the María Moliner Municipal Library and is aimed at adolescents aged 13 and older.

School groups will attend on December 11-12, while a public session will be open on December 13 from 11am to 2pm, free of charge.

The activity simulates a typical night out, presenting participants with realistic scenarios where they must make choices that distinguish between safe fun and risky behaviour.

    Learning Through Decisions

During the game, teenagers encounter dilemmas that challenge them to resist peer pressure, manage their emotions, and practise self-care. The interactive format demonstrates that decisions matter and that an exciting life does not need to involve dangerous habits or addictions.

    Expert Collaboration and Proven Impact

Health Councillor Irene Celdrán explained that the initiative goes beyond mere awareness: “We want to encourage conversations about addictions, help young people manage emotions, and teach them to resist peer pressure,” she said.

Developed in collaboration with educational psychologists and addiction prevention specialists, the escape room has already been tested by over 500 adolescents in other cities, with organisers noting the activity’s clarity, engagement, and preventive impact.

    Backed by UPCCA

The project is supported by Orihuela’s Community Addiction Prevention Unit (UPCCA), which works to prevent both substance and behavioural addictions.

In a world where youth leisure often carries potential risks, this escape room offers a playful yet meaningful educational approach, showing that curiosity, excitement, and safe decision-making can go hand in hand.
