With trends like Sober October and Dry January gaining popularity, consumers are seeking nonalcoholic beverages that boast nutritional benefits. Hiyo—which stands for “happy in your own”—is on the cusp of that trend, launching a line of social tonics that contain health-supporting functional ingredients. Touted as a “healthier way to unwind,” Hiyo hopes its beverage line can bring wellness, presence and happiness to its customers, one sip at a time.

The sparkling beverage, existing in eye-catching ombre-branded cans, is “mindfully crafted with organic adaptogens, natural nootropics and functional botanicals to provide a stress-relieving, mood-boosting lift.” Hiyo calls it “the float,” as it claims the ingredients included in each can can improve focus, promote clarity, stabilize mood, encourage relaxation and aid digestion. The ingredients that may offer this euphoric experience include ashwagandha, L-theanine, lion’s mane, lemon balm, passion flower and ginger.

The flavor lineup includes blackberry lemon, passion fruit tangerine, peach mango, pineapple coconut, strawberry guava and watermelon lime. Hiyo states its beverages are a lightly sweetened, fruit-forward seltzer made with natural juices and extracts, with each flavor providing a unique sipping experience. Its line is the only USDA-certified functional nonalcoholic seltzer. Each 12-ounce can contains 30 calories and is non-GMO, gluten-free and vegan.

Hiyo Social Tonic, $44.99 for a 12-Pack on Hiyo’s Website

Hiyo has amassed thousands of fans, with over 11,000 five-star reviews on its website. “I’m trying to cut down on alcohol and Hiyo is my favorite replacement. So grateful for this product and all of these amazing flavors!” wrote one fan. “Hiyo is awesome, and the variety pack gives you a chance to try all [of] the delicious flavors. It really is a great drink replacement, any time of year,” exclaimed another. “I must admit I was a bit skeptical at first! The happy mood that you feel after drinking this very tasty concoction sneaks up on you. It is a pleasant surprise,” shared one reviewer.

As someone who doesn’t regularly drink sparkling water or seltzer beverages, I was able to give Hiyo a try and thoroughly enjoyed it. Each flavor has a unique blend of fruity flavors and is mildly sweet yet not overpowering. I would describe it as refreshing and uplifting, and I truly loved every flavor. I couldn’t wait to crack open another can, particularly in the afternoon when I needed a pick-me-up.

Hiyo tonics are available for purchase on its website, with the 12-pack variety box retailing for $44.99. It offers a 15 percent subscribe-and-save discount, bringing the can price from $3.75 each down to $3.19 each. You can also purchase Hiyo at Whole Foods, Target, Erewhon, Fresh Thyme Market, the Vitamin Shoppe, Meijer, Albertson’s and Sprouts Farmers Market. Its website’s store locator will show where Hiyo is available near you.

“We’re not just boxing up beverages; we’re inspiring a movement of moderation and mindfulness.” Hiyo’s motto is certainly something I can get behind.
