LINCOLN, Neb. — The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Division of Behavioral Health has introduced the Nebraska Recovery Friendly Workplace (RFW) Initiative, aimed at reducing stigma related to mental health and substance use among coworkers.
Launched in March 2025, the initiative provides Nebraska businesses with free training on mental health and substance use, along with guidance on discussing sensitive topics.
Certification includes training sessions, policy reviews, and access to mental health resources.
Dr. Thomas Janousek, Director of DBH, emphasized the importance of creating supportive environments for individuals in recovery, stating, “It takes a community wrapping meaningful support around an individual in recovery to keep them living their best life.”
The initiative aims to enhance workplace satisfaction, productivity and talent retention.
As the new year approaches, DHHS encourages businesses to consider RFW certification as a goal in 2026. Interested businesses can contact DHHS for more information.
