The National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) Nigeria has applauded President Bola Tinubu for reappointing Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.) as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for another five-year term.

Describing the reappointment as a significant boost to the fight against substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking, the NCWS said it would further consolidate the agency’s progress in curbing drug-related issues across the country.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to the NDLEA national headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, the National President of NCWS, Princess Edna Azura, said, “We want to appreciate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for this wonderful opportunity that he has given you extra five years. We are very, very grateful. This renewal is a clear national endorsement of your monumental contributions to national security, public health, women and youth protection.”

In a statement released by the Director, Media & Advocacy, NDLEA Headquarters, Femi Babafemi, Azura praised Marwa’s transformative and inspiring leadership, citing his ethical and visionary public service as a model for others.

“Over the years, you have demonstrated what strong ethical and visionary public service truly means. Under your leadership, the Agency has recorded unprecedented achievements… These achievements are not just institutional milestones, they represent hope for millions of families, especially women and children,” she added.

Princess Azura also called for strengthened collaboration between the NCWS and NDLEA. She highlighted the council’s ongoing efforts in schools, markets, and communities through advocacy forums, school outreach programmes, and sensitisation campaigns.

“At NCWS, we have also been actively mobilising women, mothers, teachers and community groups to participate in the fight against substance abuse,” she said.

She proposed strategic partnerships, including the training of NCWS officers as community anti-drug ambassadors, advocacy campaigns targeting mothers, and support for the rehabilitation and reintegration of affected women and youths.

Responding, Marwa thanked the NCWS for the visit and their commendation, affirming the agency’s readiness to collaborate with the council.

“So NCWS, we don’t have any bigger partners than you because you are the mothers handling families all over the country. It is very, very critical that you stand up and be part of this struggle to redeem the souls of our young boys and girls,” he stated.

He announced that the NDLEA would organise a tailored Drug Use Prevention, Treatment and Care (DPTC) training for NCWS members in 2026.

“We will hold a DPTC training for you… so that you can also take it down to the states, and down to the grassroots,” he said.

Marwa also urged NCWS to support the ongoing advocacy for mandatory drug integrity tests for intending couples.

He described the initiative as a proactive step to discourage drug abuse and promote early detection and treatment, particularly among young Nigerians.
