A couple’s marriage faced a significant challenge when the wife uncovered a long-hidden habit of her husband’s. Just a month after their wedding, Madison Loftin discovered something on her husband Kyle’s phone that shattered her trust.
Kyle, a plumber from Salt Lake City, Utah, had been secretly watching explicit movies since he was eight years old.
“I was about eight years old when I first saw porn. I quickly became addicted, and it became my way of dealing with any negative emotions,” he said. While they were dating before marriage, Kyle only told Madison about his childhood exposure to the habit, but he did not share that it still affected him. Kyle further explained, “This habit was turning me into someone I didn’t recognize. It hurt the people I loved.”
In 2019, a month after their wedding, Madison and Kyle went on a long drive. During the drive, Madison discovered something on Kyle’s phone that she wasn’t supposed to know. The revelation devastated Kyle, and he admitted that he had been struggling with this problem for a long time.
Madison was furious and decided to take revenge by watching such movies herself. However, this act of retaliation had an unexpected outcome. After a week, Madison realised the gravity of the addiction.
She stated, “I wanted him to feel the same pain I did, but when I got trapped myself, I understood how powerful this addiction is.”
Following this revelation, the couple decided to confront the issue together. They sought professional help and joined a church’s 12-step recovery program. Kyle began attending therapy sessions, gradually learning to manage his habit.
The road to recovery was challenging, with Kyle experiencing several relapses. Despite these setbacks, their determination grew stronger each time.
Today, Madison and Kyle have emerged from this difficult period with a stronger relationship. They have two children and now dedicate themselves to helping other couples facing similar issues.
Kyle emphasised, “I want others to know that giving up is easy, but recovery is possible.” Madison advised other wives, “This problem isn’t about your beauty or any flaw; it’s just a wrong way of coping with difficulties.”
