Corinthians Africa has addressed GBVF in the La Rochelle community since last June.
Lorraine Atwell, the GBVF project manager, has been pivotal in leading awareness and intervention efforts in a community grappling with social challenges, including substance abuse, a known driver of GBVF.
Under Atwell’s leadership, the Corinthians Centre has become a safe space where individuals can access support, counselling and referrals for GBVF-related cases. The team offers comfort, guidance and practical assistance to those affected.
“Our goal is to empower individuals to recognise the signs of GBVF and inspire action, whether for themselves or on behalf of others,” said Atwell.
“We encourage everyone to add their voice and live by our motto: Break the Silence! Be the Change! The time for passivity is over. Together, we believe we can end GBVF.”
In partnership with local NPOs and key stakeholders, Corinthians will dedicate November to strengthening GBVF programmes.
Highlights will include a community prayer march and workshop on November 29 and a social media campaign aimed at raising awareness and deepening understanding of GBVF issues.
