Luxury problem

I have been trying to stop the slow death of our Rhododendrons. The leaves of one plant had been wilting and curling. I had added 4 new plants this past spring. This morn, despite a few days of rain, I noticed another plant beginning to fail.

I was beginning to bum out about their slow demise, when I caught myself and thought-

Hello Mr. Parent of Addict! You *%*$%(% !!! Do you remember when the health of your landscape would not have even been on your radar? Do you remember checking those gardens for drug contraband? Wake up and keep this problem in perspective!

I “snapped out of it” .

I believe within the hallowed halls of AA / NA they tag this a luxury problem.

Today is a good day.

Luxury problem……….I like that phrase. One thing about being the parent of an addict, it sure helps put all of our other problems in perspective. So many of the problems I used to dwell on and become so upset about really don’t amount to a hill of beans to me any more. There are many lessons to be learned on this journey.

Earlier in the summer my neighbors added a patio to their back yard. In the midst of the project they had to bring in construction equipment over a portion of our lawn which left ruts and dead grass behind. The neighbors keep apologizing, sending over cookies and thanking us for being so patient. I wish they could understand the level of importance I have given this minor inconvenience. But the cookies sure taste good!
