Addiction Journal

Silver lining

The road to recovery brings all types of people to our life.

Yesterday I was lucky to be able to reconnect with old friends that I have not seen in a very long time. It was a good time with many laughs. I enjoyed seeing them again.

I have learned over the years that not everything that is associated with addiction is bad. These friends are one of the many silver linings I have discovered in the cloud called addiction.

Addiction carries many gifts if we become “recovered” enough to see them.

Peace and strength

The pain of living with addiction in my daughter has brought many blessings ; including being humbled so i can be more compassionate to others and gaining strength in knowing i can live well once i face and go through the fear of ” what might happen”. I am so much more grateful and so much more at Peace..The wonderful ” brothers in arms” i have met through this disease only reinforces this. Bill you are one of them and i thank you so much for your thoughtful blog.

Thank you Susan. It is people like you that are truly helping others that I have the utmost respect for. You give without expecting anything back.

I have met several friends through my daughters addiction….in open meetings…naranon…alanon meetings….family addiction classes…..and have formed meaningful relationships with some…..unfortuantly since losing my daughter last year to this disease I don't quite know where I fit in…its weird…..I am in The Addicts Mom group….but also in Commpassionate Friends and Grieving Moms……I don't know how to stop being an addicts Momma….I just want to help others…..that's all I know how to do……anyway….thanks again for your blogs….they make me think….which is a good thing…lol! Have a good day!

Susan I think in all the grief, anger and pain all of these are your mechanisms. Your tools in getting through the sorrow and the joy if you could just help one parent or child. Your work and efforts are acknowledged and appreciated by many, especially your little girl, Jaycie. <3
